Post-Protest

Remember how the Social Sciences building was occupied by student protests for two weeks? When we came back for our first classes, the building looked a little different.

Part of the agreement the protesters made was to leave up the messages they had decorated the school with, excluding anything explicitly offensive, which will be removed. Yes, there are a lot of words to describe this new look, “graffiti” and “vandalism” included, but I like it.

When I walk the halls and see these walls, it shows me that this building belongs to the students, that they take responsibility for their own education. I admire it and I think more universities should aspire to feel as accessible to their students.

Below is a gallery of some of the building’s student artwork, as I’ll call it, spanning across 5 floors.
